Weekend Fitness Hikes

On October 20th, I went hiking with my family at Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford. We hiked 3.3 km in 45 minutes. We walked around and through the fields and up and down two hills.

On October 27, I went hiking again with my family, this time at Aldergrove Regional Park. We hiked 2.2 km in 45 minutes. We had to hike up and down steep hills and narrow paths, which is why this hike took the same amount of time as the last hike, even though it was shorter.

Overall, I have tried to push myself to do more physical activities outside school, even though I have limited spare time.

Mid Term Report

One month has gone by in the school year. During the first month of Physical Education class, I've been trying to get back in shape. Because I somewhat active over the summer, I decided to spend the first month trying to get myself back to the physical level I was at by the end of last school year.

So far, I haven't been doing as much physical activities outside class as I did last year, which is why I'm still kind of out of shape. This is mainly due to my busy schedule. Most of the time I spend being active is done in school during Physical Education class, which is the main reason why I try to do my best in class.

I've been doing well for the first month so far. In addition to the many sports and games we've played, we've also done many fitness activities such as the community run and the fitness stations.  I've tried my best while doing these activities, no matter how well I'm doing them. In class, I am always prepared to participate, help out, and encourage others to do their part.

In conclusion, I've been doing my best to get back in shape and I will try to possibly improve my fitness level.

Final Summery

- Comment on your; attendance / punctuality / readiness to participate.
I am always here on time and ready to participate. I always come prepared and put in my best effort.

- Comment on any changes to your fitness.  Provide evidence of the change.  Reflect on why the change happened.
Throughout my blog posts, my fitness has significantly changed. My fitness test scores have improved greatly (see previous posts). I think this happened because of the swimming I've been doing in my spare time.

- Comment on how you contribute to our class dynamic?  What do you bring?  Give examples.
I am always willing to help others and offer to help out in the class. I feel that I bring a sense of leadership to the class.

- Comment on what it means to you to be physically educated?  How are you ready for independence?
I think that being physically educated means that you can do physical activities without much instruction. Being ready for independence means that you don't need to be guided in doing an activity and are self-motivated.

- Reflect on what barriers might be keeping you from succeeding a healthy, active lifestyle.  Troubleshoot those obstacles.
I think that time is a barrier that I have to overcome. I should try to do more physical activities in my spare time.

- Suggest a grade that attempts to reflect you learning / performance / understandings / contributions...
I think that I should get an A.

End of Term Fitness Test

At the end of semester 2 term 1, we conducted a partial fitness. Here are my results:
  • Beep Test(level): 8.3 (Previous Result: 9.1)
Instead of conducting a full fitness test this time, we did the beep test followed by a fitness challenge. The fitness challenge tests how many repetitions of a simple fitness action you can do in 30 sec. With regards to the beep test, I didn't do as good as I could because I have been busy with homework and haven't been in shape lately. Overall, I think my fitness needs to be worked on so that I'm prepared for the next fitness test.

Semester 2 Interim Report Work Habit

Work Habit
During the course of the year, I feel that I have put my best effort into working hard to improve my overall fitness. I have improved on the beep test significantly.

I am always prepared to give my best effort in class and almost always never forget to bring my gym strip. I offer to help with setting up activities when help is needed. I enjoy participating in class and enjoy being in this class.

In addition to getting my daily physical activity in my Active Learning class every other day, I go swimming three times a week to make up for the days I don't have class.

Overall, I feel that I have good work habits and am willing to participate in class.

Mid Year Fitness Test

For the first fitness day of semester 2, we conducted a fitness test to find out where we were at. This test was a mid year progress report for my class. We started by doing a beep test, followed by other tests: body press, body bridge, T-test, sit and reach, max vertical, and balance board. Here are my results:
  • Beep Test(level): 8.1 (Previous Result: 6.4)
  • Body Press(# w/o stop): 8 (Previous Result: 10)
  • Body Bridge(sec): 68.34 (Previous Result: 61.24)
  • T-Test(sec): 13.13 (Previous Result: 12.3)
  • Sit and Reach(level): 1 (Previous Result: 0)
  • Max Vertical(cm): 45 (Previous Result: 45)
  • Balance Board(touches/30 sec): 11 (Previous Result: 12)
Based on the results, I improved on the beep test, body bridge, sit and reach, and balance board. The results showed that I didn't do as good on the T-test and body press. Because I did the T-test after the beep test, I was a bit tired and didn't run as fast as usual. My arms were tired when I did the body press after the body bridge, so I didn't do as many as I normally do . Overall, I did better this time.

Mid Year Reflection

During PE this year, how have you shown you are prepared and willing to participate
in a variety of activities?  On what days have you participated to your best effort and
why?  What days have been a struggle for you and why?
I have put forth my best effort every class. I am prepared for every class and am willing to try everything we do in class.

How do you contribute to the overall success of the class?  What kind of attitude do
you bring and why?  How do you interact with other students in our class?
I help others when needed and help with equipment. I always bring a positive attitude to the class.

Describe your participation during fitness days - have you been able to push yourself
physically?  What types of fitness activities do you enjoy the most?  What fitness
goals do you have for the rest of the year?I try my hardest every class to do my best. I enjoy every kind of physical activity, especially community runs. My fitness goal is to improve my cardiovascular system for my swimming.

What does "leadership" mean to you?  Who are the best leaders in our class - why?
Leadership to me means being able to help others and be an example to them. The best leaders in our class are the ones who show what it means to be a leader - not to give any names.

What improvements would you like to make in PE by the end of the year?  What are
you the most proud of so far?
I would like to improve my cardiovascular system. I am proud of my contribution to the class.

Finally, what letter grade A, B, C+, C, C- (gulp) best represents the effort you just described?

I'd give myself an A in this class.
